Mid-Coast Maine Soap Box Derby Sanctioned
Race Rules 1. 2007 All American rules apply. 2. New racers must provide a birth certificate with registration. 3. All cars must be inspected before being allowed to race. 4. Kingpins may be verified that they can be turned. 5. Weight Limits: Stock - 200 lbs., Super Stock - 230 lbs., Masters - 255 lbs. Maximum front to back differential is 15 lbs. Maximum tail weight with driver in car: Stock 107.5, Super Stock 122.5, Masters 135. If you run at maximum tail weight, any weight added to the car during the race must be added to the front. When the scales are backed up one half pound weight rule may be enforced. That is if you are within one half pound of maximum weight but not over, you will not be allowed to add more weight. 6. Washers: No wheel washers will be allowed. This will allow for faster wheel changes and help to keep the race moving. Pin clips can be any configuration as long as the rounded part faces forward. 7. No lubrication or cleaning of wheel bearings or lubrication of spindles allowed during the race. Spindles may be wiped with a dry rag. No spinning wheels between phase A and B. 8. Wheel swap: No wheel swap for first phase. All four wheels will be swapped prior to second phase. After the second phase, do not swap wheels back; you retain the other cars wheels for your next heat. Contestants are responsible to verify wheel swap. Masters will be 2-4-2. Wheels are to be returned to their original owner before leaving the race. 9. A trial run will be allowed for all drivers on June 9 starting at 3:00PM and ending at 5PM. 10. Heat pairings are generated randomly by a computer. 11. Running of heats: You will be called to line up at the scale and ramp by heat number. The number can be found on the dot on the nose or fairing of your car. Lower numbered cars will run phase A in lane 1 and phase B in lane 2. All heats are run in near numerical order. Your run number will change after each run down the track. 12. No altering of car set-up after the car has been impounded on Friday. 13. No wiping wheels once car is loaded on the ramps. Cars may be pulled back and reset against starting gate (bumped) prior to start. Wheels must be centered in the ramp. 14. Eyes must be visible above cockpit at all times. Drivers seen ducking will lose that heat. 15. No loose articles are allowed in the car, except clothing that was weighed with the car. Shorts are allowed but long pants are recommended. 16. Footwear must have formed sole. Taping of socks or hospital socks are not considered footwear, unless necessary for a masters driver to fit in the car. 17. Racers must wear their race issued t-shirt as their outer garment unless weather conditions prohibit. Taping of shirts will not be allowed. Taping of helmets will be allowed only in the Masters division. Masters may not use more than 6 inches of tape. 18. Any racer who hits the timer equipment will automatically lose that heat. The racer will be financially responsible for any damage to the timing equipment.
